A historian and a sociologist, a journalist and a professor at the SWPS University in Warsaw, he has co-founded the OKO.press portal and is a member of the Krytyka Polityczna team. In 2005-2017, he has been a columnist for Gazeta Wyborcza. The author of award-winning reportage (Naznaczeni. Africa i AIDS from 2003 and Zbawcy mórz from 2013), and academic publications on the social history of the People’s Republic of Poland and on the problems of peripheral modernization (Skok w nowoczesność, 2013) and development policy. He has published in Polityka, Newsweek, Krytyka Polityczna, Tygodnik Powszechny, The Guardian, El Pais, and others. His recent publications are No dno po prostu jest Polska. Dlaczego Polacy tak bardzo nie lubią swojego kraju i innych Polaków and Ludowa Historia Polski (W.A.B. Publishers, 2017 and 2020).
