A full professor and a long-time lecturer in Italian literature at the department of Italian studies of the University of Warsaw, she has written scientific works – also, as a co-author – on Giacomo Leopardi and Italian romanticism. She was a co-author and the scientific editor of Historia literatury włoskiej XX wieku (PWN, 2001), which was awarded a Flaiano Prize in 2002. She published Podróżować, pisać (Zeszyty Literackie, 2011) on travel literature and travelling to Italy in particular, as well as Miejsca utracone (Zeszyty Literackie, 2014). She has written for Zeszyty Literackie, Odra, Czas Literatury, and Przegląd Polityczny. Having translated into Polish nearly 70 books by the most prominent Italian authors, e.g. Antonio Tabucchi, Claudio Magris, Umberto Eco, Benedetta Craveri, Benedetto Croce, Oriana Fallaci, Piero Camporesi, Roberto Calasso, Giorgio Agamben), she was awarded the ZAIKS prize for translations from Italian in 2005 and 'Paweł Hertz prize' in 2012. In 2015, she received 'Leopold Staff Literary Award' for Miejsca utracone, and in 2017 – for lifetime achievements.
