Born in Florence and graduating from the University of Florence, she worked at the Department of Italian Studies at the University of Warsaw for over two decades. For many years, she has written for Twój Styl, Elle, Kuchnia, Gazeta Wyborcza, W drodze, and Rzeczpospolita. Living and working in Warsaw, she has written many books about the history of cuisine and culture of eating, including Moja kuchnia pachnąca bazylią, Dziennik toskański, Smak kwiatów pomarańczy (with Agnieszka Drotkiewicz). She has lived in Poland since 1983.
